The Memmingen-based RELIUS Farbenwerke GmbH is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of high-quality paints, lacquers, woodstains, renders and external thermal insulation composite systems, as well as roof and floor coatings in the premium segment. RELIUS is part of the PROSOL Group, a family-run group of companies with more than 1,200 employees and a sales network of over 85 PROSOL locations throughout Germany and Austria.
Guided by the motto “Colour is fun”, RELIUS has been a strong partner to professional trades and specialist paint retailers for more than 130 years , offering a comprehensive range that leaves nothing to be desired.
As an innovative company, RELIUS continuously develops new products and systems and enhances existing ones in order to meet every need and requirement in the future. Particular emphasis is placed on the high quality and environmental compatibility of the products, ensured by state-of-the-art production facilities and extensive technical expertise.

Tradition & future
The foundations of today’s RELIUS Farbenwerke GmbH were laid at the end of the 19th century: Emil Baeuerle Farben in Memmingen and Büsing & Fasch in Oldenburg both began as wholesalers of paints and coatings.

Büsing & Fasch (Büfa), Oldenburg, acquires a majority interest

Since December 2012, the architectural coatings business of the former RELIUS Coatings GmbH & Co. KG has belonged to PROSOL Lacke + Farben GmbH, a leading wholesaler of lacquers, paints and accessories. Under the umbrella of the PROSOL Group, the company operates as RELIUS Farbenwerke GmbH.
Our contribution to sustainability
The responsible use of the environment and resources has become increasingly important over time. As a result, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. RELIUS has always placed a high priority on product, service and advisory quality, a commercially sustainable outlook, corporate management, and environmental and social responsibility.
The RELIUS product world has long placed a strong focus on sustainability, from the careful selection of raw materials through to the finished product. RELIUS products combine high quality with a strong commitment to environmental and user friendliness. For decades, RELIUS has focused on an environmentally responsible, low-emission range of professional-grade water-based products. Numerous organisations, including TÜV Süd, DGNB and Nature Plus®, certify the high level of environmental and user friendliness of individual products.
Around two years ago, RELIUS Farbenwerke joined the climate-friendly and sustainable local heating network in Memmingen-Steinheim. Heat from the biomass heating plant in Memmingen is supplied via a network approximately one kilometre long.
In 2025, RELIUS added its own photovoltaic system at the Memmingen site, making product manufacturing more sustainable and RELIUS more energy-independent. The new photovoltaic installation will supply a large proportion of the electricity used in production from 100% renewable energy. This is a clear step towards greater security of supply, climate protection and corporate responsibility.
